Chris Cramer

Information Technology Security Officer

Chris Cramer has been the university IT security officer since January 2001. He promotes computer use privacy and confidentiality and provides educational materials for system administrators and end users. He also is the contact for legal authorities regarding computer abuse at Duke, and is responsible for Electronic Access Services, which addresses issues of identity management at the university.

From August 1996 until January 2001, Chris was an associate in research and served as system administrator for the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Duke. Among other responsibilities, he configured the ECE network and provided services to more than 1,200 users. He also has taught undergraduate and graduate classes in electrical engineering; science, technology and human values; and engineering. His work has been published in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, Biosystems, the European Journal of Operational Research, and elsewhere.

Chris is a member of the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society, and has been on the board of directors and secretary of the Piedmont Wildlife Center since August 2005.

He has a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering and an M.S. in electrical engineering, both from Duke, and a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from Louisiana State University.
