Additional information

Duke has implemented two DEC programs for universities providing software licenses, media, documentation and phone support. They are the Campus- wide Software License Grant program (CSLG) and the Education Software Library program (ESL), which now are licensed together. The CSLG provides licenses in the form of Product Authorization Keys (PAKs) to most DEC software currently available under VMS, Ultrix, OSF/1, and NT, with the exception of third-party "royalty" products (e.g. SoftPC, Motif, WPS-Plus, RDB, PATHworks/DOS client, and ALL- IN-ONE). In1994, DEC granted these license PAKs to Duke for one site license fee to be shared by the users (added to the ESL membership fees described below).

The PAKs last for one-year and have to be updated (reinstalled) annually. By now, most DEC software is LMF-compliant, meaning that it requires a license PAK to run.

There is one portfolio of licenses for OpenVMS (on VAX and Alpha/AXP). There is another portfolio for OSF/1 and Ultrix (for Alpha/AXP and VAX). Each license portfolio will be updated quarterly in order to get access to new DEC products. In all there are several hundred licenses granted. In addition, a few PC and NT licenses have been granted.
