Information Technology Advisory Council

Charter

I. Purpose

The purpose of the Duke University Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) is to support the academic mission of the University through the appropriate use of information technology. Toward this end it will:

• Advise the Vice Provost for Information Technology (VPIT) on issues of computing, telephony, video, and other information technology;
• Work with faculty members and the VPIT to develop and keep current an annually- revised Strategic Plan for Information Technology embodying a vision for how the University can employ information technology to support its academic mission;
• Advise on policies, procedures, and standards for information technology at Duke University;
• Ensure that the Duke Community is kept informed about information technology issues and initiatives, and provide a channel to bring into the university's planning and evaluation processes the concerns and suggestions of Duke University faculty, students, and staff;
• Review and report annually to the VPIT, senior leadership, and the Duke community on the status of information technology at Duke and progress towards goals and objectives.

II. Membership

Individual committee members will be chosen for their knowledge and understanding of contemporary and emerging information technology; the strategic planning process; the university's mission for outstanding teaching, research, and health care; the broad spectrum of needs and interests within the university community; and the need for effective stewardship of scarce resources. ITAC will include faculty members, students, administrators, and staff, identified as follows:

• Students; undergraduate students will be nominated by Duke Student Government (DSG), graduate or professional students by the Graduate and Professional Students Council (GPSC);
• Faculty members nominated by the Academic Council;
• Administrators nominated by the Provost, the Executive Vice President, and the Chancellor for Health Affairs;
• Office of Information Technology (OIT) staff members nominated by the VPIT;
• Information Technology representatives from the Schools and the Library nominated by the Deans and the Vice Provost for Library Affairs;
• A faculty-member representative nominated by PACOR.

Members will serve staggered three-year terms and may be reappointed.
