Can I change my NetID?

You may change your NetID only for the following reasons:
• You legally change your name
• You provide evidence that your assigned NetID is offensive

How do I activate my NetID?

When a new employee receives a photo ID badge, he or she will be asked to swipe the badge at a DukeCard Express Station at one of the DukeCard Offices. The Express Station will prompt the person to enter a password. The NetID will be activated automatically within 15 minutes of entering the new password.

Why is it important NOT to share my password?

Personal student information is available online and can be accessed with your NetID and password. If a user logs in with your NetID and password, that user has automatic access to your academic accounts, such as AFS, ACES, and Web/SISS.

What is Challenge & Response?

Challenge & Response (C&R) is the process OIT uses to verify the identity of an individual remotely (for example, over the telephone). C&R consists of one or more questions created or selected by an individual, and the response(s) to the question(s).

Example: Suppose someone has forgotten his password and calls a Help Desk to have the password reset. The Help Desk would check the C&R associated with the caller’s NetID and pose the question(s) to the caller. If the caller can answer the question(s) correctly, he is considered to be whom he claims to be, and the Help Desk will reset the password.

How do I create my Challenge & Response phrase(s)?

After your NetID has been activated, you can go to: http://www.duke.edu/online/crv/ and log on using your NetID and NetID password. At that website, click on Click Here to Choose and/or Write Your Challenge Questions and Responses. Select or create three questions and provide a response to each. You will receive weekly email reminders to create your Challenge & Response phrase(s) until you have done so.

Where can I find help with my NetID?

If you have questions about your NetID, please contact the OIT Help Desk by submitting an online request for support or calling (919) 684-2200. We're located in Room 02C Bryan Center on West Campus.

How do I change my NetID password?

If you know your existing password and wish to change or update it, you can do so at http://www.duke.edu/online. If you do not know your existing password, please call the OIT Help Desk at 919-684-2200. For security reasons we are unable to perform password resets via E-mail or Live Chat.
