Interactive Technology Services (ITS) provides comprehensive IT development and integration services to support Duke’s academic mission, administrative groups and strategic objectives. The unit provides development services, digital asset capture and distribution, Web development, and the integration of academic applications within the Academic Services directorate of Duke’s Office of Information Technology (OIT).
ITS provides Duke departments with a focal point for assistance with Web development activities, including resource identification, production, implementation, maintenance and hosting. ITS also provides Duke departments with a focal point for the creation, capture, and dissemination of digital assets.
Student Technology Services (STS) provides high-quality technology support to the Duke academic community. In this effort, STS oversees a number of student programs, including technology training, Students with Access to Technology (SWAT), and support of the OIT computer labs, quad printers, and email stations. STS also participates in the planning and support of other academically driven initiatives.
Under the aegis of the Office of Community Affairs, STS's Community Outreach effort helps bring technology to the Durham community by donating computers and technical support to local schools, community centers, and churches. Community Outreach volunteers help install hardware and software and assist with connecting computers to the Internet. They also assist with technology classes and the development of training and tutoring programs. To see how the program is making a difference in the schools it serves, visit these Web sites:
Academic Services is among the Duke organizations that support the Duke Digital Initiative (DDI), a multi-year program of experimentation, development, and implementation of new and emerging technologies to explore their effective use in support of the university's mission. DDI is a mechanism for us to experiment with, develop, and implement new and emerging technologies in support of the University's mission. DDI is aimed at using information technology to enhance teaching and learning, informal learning, faculty research/creative work, and university outreach.
