Logging into your account

  1. From the File menu, select Quick Connect.
  2. In the Connect to Remote Host box, fill in the boxes as shown below:
    Host name: login1.oit.duke.edu
    User name: your NetID
    Port Number: 22
  3. Click Connect. If this is the first time you are using the client on your computer, the Host Identification box will appear. At the prompt Do you want to save the new host key to the local database?, click Yes.
  4. In the Enter Password box, type your password and click OK.
  5. In the Add Profile box, type a name for the profile and click Add to Profiles. (This saves the connection information so you can connect faster next time.) A connection window will open. Under Local Name, the contents of the local system's hard drive will be displayed. Under Remote Name, the contents of your directory on the DukeNet server will be displayed.

Uploading files

  1. Under Local Name, click to select the file(s) to upload. (To select multiple files, use CTRL + click.)
  2. Under Remote Name, select the location to save the file. (Upload Web pages to your public_html directory.)
  3. Use a drag-and-drop operation to move the desired file(s) from Local Name to Remote Name, or right-click the local file(s) and click Upload.

Downloading files

  1. Under Remote Name, click to select the file(s) to download. (To select multiple files, use CTRL + click.)
  2. Under Local Name, select the location to save the file.
  3. Use a drag-and-drop operation to move the desired file(s) from Remote Name to Local Name, or right-click the remote file(s) and click Download.

Profiles

You can create a list of your favorite remote computers or servers. A profile allows you to establish a connection to a remote host without having to type in the remote computer's Internet address and your NetID every time.

Creating profiles
  1. Select File > Profiles.
  2. In the Add Profile box, type a name for the profile. The profile will be created without session information. To add session information, edit the profile.
Editing profiles
  1. Select File > Profiles > Edit Profiles.
  2. In the Profile window, fill in the boxes as follows: Host name: Internet address of the remote computer
    User name: your NetID
    Port number: 22
  3. Click OK.
Using profiles
  1. Select File > Profiles.
  2. In the list of profiles, click the desired profile.
  3. In the password box, type your password.
  4. Click OK.

Disconnecting from the remote host 

Select File > Disconnect.
