McAfee VirusScan 

OIT distributes and supports McAfee VirusScan for Windows users. VirusScan automatically checks for updates every time you start your computer to ensure your system is protected against the latest viruses. You also can scan your computer for viruses as needed. The download is free for members of the Duke community.

Download McAfee VirusScan 8 for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT.

To scan your computer

1. Select Start > Programs > Network Associates > VirusScan On-Demand Scan.
2. In the VirusScan Console, click Start.
3. If a virus is found, a window indicating the name of the virus will appear and show that the virus has been cleaned or moved, if the virus is not removed, ask for help.
4. When scanning is finished, the Progress window will appear and indicate the scan is complete.
5. Click Close.

NOTE: Some viruses can damage files and make them unusable. VirusScan will disinfect the virus, but the file may still be unusable.
