Please take a moment to take the OIT Software Licensing Questionnaire. The purpose of this questionnaire is to get some general feedback, as well as suggestions for improving the Web site. All responses are anonymous.

  • Microsoft products: Duke's recent agreement with Microsoft makes MS products available to Duke faculty, staff and students. If you are buying a computer for use at Duke, please keep these things in mind:
    • The license for Windows is for upgrades, which means that you need to have a Microsoft or Apple operating system, or at least a Microsoft Windows "key"— the electronic proof from Microsoft that the machine is eligible for an "upgrade"— on your computer. Download Microsoft Windows: Faculty & Staff - Students
    • Mac OS also qualifies as an upgradable operating system, in case you want to run Windows on your Intel-based Mac.
    • The license for Office is for the full version, so you will not need a prior version of Office on your machine to download it under this agreement. Download Microsoft Office: Faculty & Staff - Students
  • New software evaluations

Any member of the Duke community can submit a request for new software to be evaluated for use in academics, research, IT, or operations. Choose one of the two following committees for more information on the process.

Academic Software Requests are reviewed by the ITAC Academic Technology Subcommittee (ITAC AcadTech).

IT and Operational Requests are reviewed by the Software License Committee.
