Outlook 2003 Secure Email Setup
For All Users
Open Outlook 2003. If the
Outlook 2003 Startup
screen appears, choose
No
to creating an account.
From the menu bar, select
Tools
>
E-mail Accounts
.
Under
E-mail
, select
Add a new e-mail account
.
Under
Server Type
, select
IMAP
.
Enter your name and Duke email address.
Enter your Duke NetID and password.
In the
Incoming mail server (IMAP)
field, enter
imap.duke.edu
.
In the
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
field, enter
smtp.duke.edu
.
Click the
More Settings
button and continue instructions on the next section.
Configure the Account to Use SSL
Select the
Outgoing Server
tab.
Check the box for
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
.
Choose the radial button for
Use same settings as my incoming mail server
.
Select the
Advanced
tab.
Under
Incoming server (IMAP)
, check the box labeled
This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
.
Ensure that the port number changes to
993
.
Under
Outgoing server (SMTP)
, check the box labeled
This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
.
Change the port number to
465
. (It will not change automatically)
Click
OK
.
Double-check the information in the following box and click
Next
.
Click
Finish
and restart Outlook.
