Duke Text Messaging

Duke has introduced text messaging, also known as SMS (short message service), as part of its DukeALERT system to enable broad and rapid notification of faculty, staff and students in the event of an emergency.

Text messaging will be offered on an opt-in basis to all students, faculty and staff at Duke. Members of the Duke community can sign up for text messages by registering the number of their cell phone or other mobile device.

Text messages can be sent to mobile devices through any of the area’s wireless providers. The service is offered at no additional charge to the recipient. However, standard text messaging rates apply based on each customer¹s agreement with their service provider.
