SAPgui 6.40 installation for Windows
SAPgui is generally compatible with Windows versions supported by Microsoft. The current installer will update any version of the SAP client software on the computer, so you do not need to manually remove a previously-installed version of SAPgui. If you are upgrading the Authentic Login client, you should remove it through the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
Before you install
- As with most software installations, it is best to turn off virus protection and close other running programs.
- You should be logged on to the workstation with full access rights. Many machines are set up so that only an administrative user can install new applications.
- If you only need to add the BW components, make sure you have access to the SAP installation files (step 1, below). Then go to Adding BW components.
Installing SAPgui
- Download the SAPgui 6.40 client from the OIT Site License website.
- Expand the .zip file, and open the SAPgui folder. If space is limited or you need to do several installations, you may wish to burn the installation files to a CD.
- Launch setup.exe. Click Next when prompted to continue.
- If you are prompted with "What kind of configuration task do you want to start," choose the Update radio button and click Finish. SAPgui components will be updated and you may skip the remainder of these instructions.
- If possible, accept the default destination folder and click Next to continue.
- When prompted for the components to install, select both the top-level SAP GUI check box and the top-level BW Add-on check box. Click Next to continue.
- Click Install. The installation process may take several minutes to complete. Click Finish when prompted.
Authentic Login installation
SAP uses kerberos authentication for access to all production systems. You must have a NetID that is authorized for SAP. Users should contact their local SAP user administrator to request access to SAP.
Authentic Login 1.12-8 is the current version. You can read about the changes to this version, if desired. If an older version is installed, we recommend that you upgrade. You can see which version is installed in the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
NOTE: You must have SAPgui installed before you install the Authentic Login component.
- Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to remove any installed version of Authentic Login for SAP.
- Launch Authentic.exe, located in the top level folder of the SAPgui installation files (see Installing SAPgui above).
- If possible, accept all defaults during installation.
- Restart your machine if prompted to do so at the end of the installation.
- You should have Authentic Login and SAP Logon icons on your desktop. You are now ready to use SAP.
