Classroom AV
Classroom applications
Instructors and students can take advantage of audiovisual systems present in many classrooms to play back audio, images, or videos stored on the iPod. If your lecture or discussion uses tracks from several CDs or many images or video clips, these can be loaded into the iPod and arranged in playlists for playback in the classroom, making it easy to cue up particular items or to skip within or between items as needed during the class. The material could include digital files you may already be using for class sessions, assignments you have downloaded before the class, or short examples or images you have produced shortly before the class meets. If you are using a classroom computer or laptop, you can also attach the iPod to the computer during class and access Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and other materials for class lectures and demonstrations.
Getting your iPod Ready
To use your iPod with an audiovisual system, you need an iPod AV cable that will allow you to connect the iPod into the sound and video inputs for your classroom's sound and display system. Instructors teaching official iPod courses for the current semester can get this cable from their classroom support staff; others who wish to obtain one can do so at the Duke Computer Store or at the local Apple store.
To use images or video materials in the classroom, you will also need to set your iPod to project to the screen rather than showing them on the iPod's display. To do this, choose "Photos" or "Videos" in the iPod's main menu, then look for "Settings". The TV Out setting should be set to "On" by clicking the button on the click wheel.
