If I want to share files, isn't that my business?

It's not just your business if what you are sharing is copyrighted or otherwise illegal material. Be aware that such practice is against Duke Computing Policy. Also, it's not just your business if your file-sharing activity adversely affects use of Duke network resources for academic and research purposes.

What are other universities doing?

Other universities have experienced p2p-related network problems similar to those at Duke. Some of these universities have made it policy to block p2p applications from their networks. Other universities are doing what Duke is doing; they are asking everyone to voluntarily disable the upload capacity of their p2p applications.

What do you want me to do about it?

Duke OIT wants you to reconfigure your p2p application. Also, find out what to do to avoid problems with file sharing.
