NetID Request

  • Students automatically get a NetID upon matriculation.
  • Faculty and staff automatically get a NetID when the new-hire iForm is completed in SAP (the HR system of record).

Affiliates and Electronic Identities

Affiliates are defined as Duke community members who have a formal or business need for a Duke electronic identity and are not recorded in a system of record such as SAP (the HR system) or SISS (student system).

For a community member who is not sourced from a system of record, the following steps can be taken to request a NetID and Unique ID:

  1. Check the directory via Online@Duke to be sure the person does not already have a NetID. (https://webacct.acpub.duke.edu/cgi-bin/proxypage.cgi?ppage=dir)
  2. If there is no entry in the directory, visit the following site to request an electronic identity: https://idms.oit.duke.edu/dukeid/request

Active staff and faculty may use this secure web site to make requests. The requester can select "New Request" from the left-hand menu and will be prompted for specific information for the affiliate:

  • Full legal name (including middle name - not just initial)
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Sponsor's NetID

A sponsor is defined as a person who is full-time regular paid staff at Duke with a record on file in SAP. The sponsor agrees to vouch for the affiliate's formal relationship with Duke and agrees to notify OIT Electronic Access Services when that relationship ends.

A response will be sent by e-mail when the request has been processed. Requests for Duke NetIDs and Unique IDs are honored on a first come, first served basis and may take up to 2 business days to be processed.

Please Note:

  • Affiliates may not sponsor other affiliates unless approval is granted to do so by OIT Electronic Access Services. Please contact dukeid@duke.edu if you have any questions about sponsoring an affiliate.
  • Please do not send sensitive information by email to dukeid@duke.edu.
  • If a request needs to be made for more than 10 affiliates at a time, please send an email to dukeid@duke.edu for instructions.
