Duke has introduced a new version of its online events calendar that will make it easier for users to post and find information about campus happenings.
In collaboration with OIT and other units, the provost’s office will officially launch the new calendar on August 11. Training for individuals who publish events for their department will be held in mid-August. For registration information, visit Duke Events Calendar Training.
The calendar’s online address will remain http://calendar.duke.edu.
Based on the open-source application Bedework, the new calendar allows users to enter information about a particular event just once and indicate whether that event should be included on the main calendar, school or unit calendars, and even private group calendars.
Users also can sort and view upcoming events by category or date. Ongoing events, such as art exhibits, are featured in a separate section. Users can subscribe to RSS feeds for automatic notification about events posted by specific groups, during particular time periods or in predefined categories.
The new system is compatible with standard personal calendar tools including dCal, Lotus Notes, iCal, Google and Outlook 2003 with SP3. Users can download individual .ics files for import into compatible calendars.
All members of the Duke community with a valid NetID can submit events for publication. Submissions will be reviewed before publication.
