OIT welcomes you to Duke! We hope you find your IT experience here to be one that facilitates and ehances your work.
Duke is a large, diverse organization, and its decentralized IT structure is designed to meet your needs at the individual departmental level. We recommend you contact your local IT support person to ensure you are using the right tools for your department and work.
A Duke NetID is an electronic alphanumeric identifier that can authenicate you to systems and services on the Duke computing network. A NetID, used in combination with a strong password, proves to online resources that you are who you say you are.
Faculty and staff are automatically assinged NetIDs once their records are created in Duke's HR database or once OIT receives a request on your behalf from a Duke sponsor (i.e., a regulalry paid Duke staff member).
The NetID site contains information about the various resources available to your with your NetID, including those described below.
How you check your email and what email address you use largely depends on what department you are in. We recommend contacting your local IT support person for information on how your department uses email.
OIT offers AFS storage space associated with your NetID. However, most departments also offer alternative storage options. We recommend contacting your local IT support person for information on how your department uses storage.
As with email and data storage, OIT recommends contacting your local IT support person for information on which calendar system your department uses. OIT offers a calendar system called dCal to all members of the Duke community free of charge.
Duke offers wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) connections to the Duke computing network on campus. For more information on connecting at the university see the networking Web page.
OIT manages all phone service needs for the university and health system. If you need assistance with your phone or voice mail or would like to purchase a business cell phone, visit this page for information.
