Change your pager security code

Your default security code is your Duke UniqueID.

To change your security code, do the following:

  1. Dial your pager number (970xxxx).
  2. At the greeting, press * (star) # (pound).
  3. Press 3 (to add or change a security code).
  4. Press 1 (to enter a security code; use 3-7 digits).

If you forget your security code, call (919) 684-2200.

Change your pager status and coverage

Note: This feature is not available to Duke Health Raleigh Hospital pager users.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Duke University and Hospital: Dial your pager ID, (919) 970-xxxx.
    • Durham Regional Hospital and community physicians:
      Dial (919) 470-4636. At the prompt, dial your four-digit messaging ID.
  2. At the greeting, press * (star), # (pound).
  3. Enter your security code, then press #.
  4. From the menu, press 1 (to change page status or coverage).
  5. Select one of the following options (Note: If you are covered by another user and select 2, 3, 6, 7 or 8, the prompt "Warning - You currently have an active coverage that will override this option. Please press option 5 and follow the prompts" will play):
    • 2 - On page
    • 3 - Not on page
    • 5 - Change coverage (then select an option below)
      • 1 - Enter a covering ID
      • 2 - Delete coverage exception
    • 6 - Available emergency only
    • 7 - Referred to another number
    • 8 - In surgery -- call operating room

Send a text message to a pager

If you are on the Duke network, you can send a text message to a pager via Smart Web. Do the following:

  1. From a Web browser, visit Smart Web.
  2. Enter the desired seven-digit pager ID, user's name (last, first), or department.
  3. Click Search. The search results are displayed.
  4. Under Send Message/Page, click Send Page.
  5. In the next window, type your message and click Send.

Send email to an alphanumeric pager

You can send a page via e-mail to an alphanumeric pager.

Duke University and Hospital and Duke Health Raleigh Hospital users: Address your message to 7-digit ID@paging.duke.edu.

Example: 9701234@paging.duke.edu

Durham Regional Hospital and community physicians: Address your message to 4-digit ID@paging.duke.edu.

Example: 1234@paging.duke.edu

Customize your greeting

To change your pager greeting, do the following. (Note: This feature is not available to Duke Health Raleigh Hospital users.)

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Duke University and Hospital: Dial your pager ID, (919) 970-xxxx.
    • Durham Regional Hospital and community physicians:
      Dial (919) 470-4636. At the prompt, dial your four-digit ID.
  2. At the greeting, press * (star), # (pound).
  3. Enter your security code, then press #.
  4. From the menu, press 4 (to administer personal greeting).
  5. Follow the system prompts to record and change your greeting.
