Unity Voice Mail Get Started

When you call into Unity for the first time you will hear a set of pre-recorded instructions to assist you in setting up your mailbox. You will be asked to record your name, record a greeting, and change your password.

*NOTE: Your temporary password when accessing your new mailbox is your 7-digit telephone number*

Access your voice mail

You can access your voice mail from any phone within or outside the university by following these instructions:

1. Dial 613-6245 (or press your message button)
   
2. Press * (only if using a remote phone)
   
3. Enter your ID (7-digit telephone number).
4. At the prompt, enter your temporary password.
   (which will be your 7-digit telephone number)

Set up your mailbox

Once you have accessed the voicemail system, follow the prompts to set up your mailbox.  If you hang up before completing the procedure, the changes will not be saved. To start over, dial into the system again and follow the prompts.  If you experience any problems in setting up your voice mailbox, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 684-2200 or send an email to televideo@duke.edu.

Your new password must:

• be at least three digits in length
• not be the same as your telephone extension
• not be the a repition of one digit or easy to guess (e.g., 999999 or 12345)
• not begin with 0
  
• unique and different from previous passwords.

Record a greeting

You have the option to record up to five different greetings for your mailbox. In addition to a greeting for when you are not able to answer your phone, you may record greetings for when you are on the phone, away on vacation, or for after hours. You can also record different greetings for internal and outside callers.
