Octel Call Forwarding

In order for Octel voice mail to answer your calls, you must activate call forwarding. You may forward your calls to any local number; simply replace the voice mail access number in the instructions below with another number.

There are three types of call forwarding: Call Forward No Answer, Call Forward Busy, and Call Forwad All Calls. All three may be active at once, but Call Forward All Calls overrides the other two when it is active.

Call Forward No Answer

If you have voice mail, OIT recommends you activate Call Forward No Answer. Voice mail will answer your calls after 3-4 rings. You only need to activate this feature once; there may never be a need for you to cancel the feature.

Analog lines (Norstar, ITT, Iwatsu/Omega phones)

Follow the steps below. If you have more than one line of your number, follow the steps for each line.

Activate call forward no answer

  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial * 8.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial your voice mail access number (684-4000 or 684-4800).
  5. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  6. Hang up.

Cancel call forward no answer

  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial * 9.
  3. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  4. Hang up.

Digital (ISDN) lines

Follow the steps below.

Activate call forward no answer

  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial # 2.
  3. Listen for dial tone.

    NOTE: If you dial 9 to get an outside line, dial * 2, then go to step 4.

  4. Dial your voice mail access number (684-4000 or 684-4800).
  5. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  6. Hang up.
  7. Press Call Forward No Answer on your phone (green light turns on).

Cancel call forward no answer

Press Call Forward No Answer on your phone (green lights turns off). To reactivate, press Call Forward No Answer.

Call Forward Busy

If you have voice mail, OIT recommends you activate Call Forward Busy. Voice mail will answer your calls when all your available lines are busy.

All line types

Follow the steps below.

Activate call forward busy
Note to analog line users (Norstar, ITT, Iwatsu/Omega phones): if you have more than one line of your number, follow the steps below on the last line only.
  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial * 5.
  3. Listen for dial tone.NOTE: If you hear a fast busy signal, Call Forward Busy is already active. Note to digital (ISDN) line users: If you dial 9 to get an outside line, dial * 2, then go to step 4.
  4. Dial your voice mail access number (684-4000 or 684-4800).
  5. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  6. Hang up.
Cancel call forward busy

You may want to cancel Call Forward Busy if you want callers to hear a busy signal rather than forwarding to your voice mailbox.

Note to analog line users (Norstar, ITT, Iwatsu/Omega phones): if you have more than one line of your number, follow the steps below on the last line only.
  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial * 6.
  3. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  4. Hang up.

Call Forward All Calls

If you activate Call Forward All Calls, your phone will not ring and all calls will forward immediately to voice mail. If you have Call Forward No Answer and/or Call Forward Busy activated, Call Forward No Answer will override them. When you cancel Call Forward All Calls, Call Forward No Answer and Call Forward Busy will remain unchanged.

Analog lines (Norstar, ITT, Iwatsu/Omega phones)

Follow the steps below. If you have more than one line of your number, follow the steps for the first line only.

Activate call forward all calls
  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 75.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial your voice mail access number (684-4000 or 684-4800).
  5. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  6. Hang up.
Cancel call forward all calls
  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial 76.
  3. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  4. Hang up.

Digital (ISDN) lines

Follow the steps below.

Activate call forward all calls
  1. Lift handset or use speakerphone; listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial # 9.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. NOTE: If you dial 9 to get an outside line, dial * 2 before going to step 4.
  1. Dial your voice mail access number (684-4000 or 684-4800).
  2. Listen for stuttered dial tone.
  3. Hang up.
  4. Press Call Forward All Calls on your phone (green light turns on).
Cancel call forward all calls

Press Call Forward All Calls on your phone (green light turns off). To reactivate, press Call Forward All Calls.
