Student Long Distance Phone Service

As an on-campus resident, you can place domestic and international long distance calls using Duke's long distance service. You'll use your Student Authorization Code (SAC) to place these calls.

The Student Authorization Code (SAC) is your on-campus access to Duke's long distance service. It's a private, seven-digit code you'll use when you place direct-dialed (1 + or 011 +) long distance calls from campus. The SAC is valid throughout your years at Duke. Your SAC has no monthly fee or minimum usage requirement. All the calls you place with your SAC will appear on your monthly OIT statement.

To request a SAC, visit Online@Duke (click Student Accounts, then Manage My Accounts).

Domestic long distance

Duke currently bills all domestic, direct-dialed long distance calls (1 +) originating on campus at a flat rate of  7 cents per minute (24 hours a day, seven days a week). Directory assistance, 1 + 900, international calls, and any long distance calls carried by Verizon (generally to surrounding cities) are subject to various charges.

International long distance

Duke bills international calls (011 +) originating on campus at a flat rate per minute per country, regardless of the time and day of the call. Rates vary by country.
